How to improve user’s payment process and provide easy access to invoices?
Research Problem (Customer)
Customers had a lack of trust in giving their credit card information over the phone to our operations team.
Sometimes they see an email and they don’t remember if the email was already been paid or they will go on the spam.
Invoices were lost in their email inbox, were never paid on time, and there was uncertainty if it was already paid.
No transparency: Customers currently do not get visibility or a breakdown of their remodeling project’s ongoing costs from contractors. This includes expenses of materials, services, labor costs, and change requests. This results in last-minute surprises that are financially stressful for the customer.
Research problem (Trades)
Unreliable pay: Most trades live paycheck to paycheck and the majority of them are Hispanics. Once they get paid, they send money to their families back at home. Many General Contractors pay their trades on Friday or every other Friday, but this is not always the case and affects the lives of trades.
Trades have many pain points with the construction industry within itself. They don’t get as much credit for their work, some are underpaid or don’t get paid on time, and have no work-life balance. As a result, the industry is fraught with trades who never show up on time and are unreliable.
Outcome vision
Customers will receive a detailed financial analysis where they’re able to see where every dollar will be spent.
Customers will have access to “Payments” through the project screen. They will see: detailed invoices, all charges, switch payment methods and pay their bill.
PROs can access payments through the project screen and payment settings. They can view a log of all payments and find more details about each payment they received.
Payments: Some local trades do not have bank accounts. Since it was essential to pay them on time, and it wasn’t scalable to drive around handing checks, we created an option to have a Bamboo card through the app. This was a third-party integration with ProPay.
